15-03-2011Javier Bardem wins the Best Actor Award for Biutiful at the Silver Fotogramas Awards, presented each year by the prestigious film magazine Fotogramas. It’s their readers that vote for these actors’ awards, and this is the seventh time Javier Bardem has been awarded over the years.

16-02-2011The more than 3,000 members of the Actors’ Union have voted the candidates for the 20th edition of their annual Prizes Ceremony which will take place on April 4th at the Price Theater Circus in Madrid. Biutiful has the greatest number of candidates, with a total of four nominees, followed by Lope, with three.
Javier Bardem, Maricel Álvarez, Eduard Fernández and Ana Wagener are the nominees for Biutiful.
Antonio de la Torre, Juan Diego and Pilar López de Ayala are the nominees for Lope.

Lope is now available on DVD, with Extras containing a Special Version for educational use (a reduced 97 min. version that can be seen in 2 sessions), as well as subtitles in color for people with impaired vision and audio description for the hard of hearing. Also included is the music video of Jorge Drexler’s song, “Que el soneto nos tome por sorpresa”, which won this year’s Goya Award for Best Original Song. This piece was directed by Lope’s director, Andrucha Waddington, who’s made music videos in the past for artists such as Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil.
Lope is also available as a two-disc Blu-Ray Special Edition, which comes with a free DVD version of the film, as well as the following Extras: Director’s cut, Making of (60 min.), Theatrical Trailer, Teaser, Photo gallery and the music video of Jorge Drexler’s song, “Que el soneto nos tome por sorpresa”.
14-02-2011Tatiana Hernández received the Goya Award for Best Costume Design for her work in Lope. It’s her second nomination at these awards, as she was a candidate back in 2003 for her work in Javier Fesser’s “Mortadelo & Filemon: The Big Adventure”.
Jorge Drexler was awarded the Goya for Best Original Song, for 'Que El Soneto Nos Tome Por Sorpresa'. He was already nominated at the Goya Awards 2006 for his song "La vida secreta de las pequeñas cosas", which he wrote together with David Broza for the film "Cándida", directed by Guillermo Fesser. He also won an Oscar for his song “Al otro lado del río” for “The Motorcycle Diaries”, directed by Walter Salles.

14-02-2011Javier Bardem was proclaimed Best Leading Actor at the 25th edition of the Spanish Academy’s Goya Awards. This is the second award he receives after Cannes for his performance in Biutiful. It’s also the 5th Goya Award of his career, after winning the Best Supporting Actor award for his role in “Running Out of Time” (1995), followed by three Best Leading Actor awards for “Mouth to Mouth” (1996), “Mondays in the Sun” (2003) and “The Sea Inside” (2005).

This is Bardem’s third nomination at Hollywood’s Academy Awards. In the year 2000, he was nominated Best Actor in a Leading Role for his work in Julian Schnabel’s “Before Night Falls”, and in 2007, he won the Oscar for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for the Cohen brothers’ “No Country for Old Men”. For Alejandro González Iñárritu’s, it’s his second nomination in the best Best Foreign Language Film category, after “Amores Perros” in 2001. His film “Babel” was nominated Best Picture and Iñarritú himself was nominated Best Director in 2007.
24-01-2011The Spanish Screenwriters’ Union ALMA, which was founded in 1989 and comprises of almost 300 members, has announced the nominations for their first Screenplay Awards, which will take place on February 5th in Madrid’s Sala Berlanga. Lope’s screenplay, written by Ignacio del Moral and Jordi Gasull, will be competing in the category of Best Screenplay for a Feature Film, and Garbo: The Spy, written by María Hervera, Isaki Lacuesta and Edmon Roch, will be competing in the category of Best Screenplay for a Documentary.
18-01-2011Javier Bardem, who already won a BAFTA Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2008 for his role in the Cohen Brothers’ “No Country for Old Men”, is now nominated for Best Leading Actor for his performance in Biutiful at the 63rd edition of the BAFTAs. He will be competing against Jeff Bridges ("True Grit"), Jesse Eisenberg ("The Social Network"), James Franco (“127 Hours”) and Colin Firth ("The King’s Speech"). The Award ceremony will take place on February 13th at the Royal Opera House in London’s Covent Garden, the same day as the Goya Awards in Spain, where he is also nominated for Best Leading Actor for Biutiful.

Alejandro González Iñárritu already competed in this category with “Amores Perros” in 2002, and his film “Babel” was nominated Best Film in 2007. He was also nominated for the David Lean Award for Direction that year. In this year’s edition, he’ll be competing against Xavier Beauvois’ “Of Gods and Men”, Juan José Campanella’s “The Secret in Their Eyes”, Süren Staermose and Niels Arden Oplev’s “The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo”, and Luca Guadagnino’s “I am love”.

08-09-2010The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), known as one of the three leading film festivals of the world, will start tomorrow with 25 world premieres, including Lope. Biutiful will open in the US within the ‘Special Presentation’ section, along with 34 other films.
04-09-2010From September 10th to November 28th, Madrid’s Costume Museum will host the exhibition Lope, las entretelas del siglo de oro, which will display the costumes designed by Tatiana Hernández for the film Lope.

The film has also been selected at the 35th edition of the Toronto International Film Festival, which will take place from September 9 to 19.
