The Movistar Plus Original series “Veredicto,” a drama based on an idea by Carles Porta and created by Eduard Sola, Pol Cortecans, and Daniel González, has just begun filming in Barcelona and will continue through August at various locations throughout Catalonia.

“Veredicto” is an ambitious courtroom thriller directed by Carlos Marques-Marcet and starring Nagore Aranburu, Ernesto Alterio, Alba Flores, Omar Ayuso, Secun de la Rosa, Alfredo Castro, Marc Soler, Júlia Mascort, Cris Blanco, and Mamen Duch.

In the words of Carles Porta: “The deliberations of lay juries have been explored very little, yet they are an essential part of a judicial process. Deliberations are, without a doubt, the least understood part of trials, and that’s where the idea came from: a series that shows what is never seen. ‘12 Angry Men’ was a benchmark that has been very difficult not only to surpass but also to emulate. The challenge of ‘Veredicto’ is to make the viewer feel like just another member of the jury.”

In the words of Eduard Sola: “When they called me to offer me the project, I felt like I was being rewarded. ‘Nine people locked in a room discussing a murder’ is a gift for any screenwriter. A gift and, of course, a huge challenge: A jury of the people isn’t just a group of people arguing—it’s the embodiment of democracy, the power of the people. Portraying the dynamics of a deliberation goes far beyond solving a crime; it is, after all, a portrayal of humanity. To achieve that, I have the best possible writing team.

As if the premise weren’t already challenging enough on a dramatic level, our writing team set out to tackle moral challenges as well. The crime that the nine members of our jury must judge is steeped in ethical dilemmas, and that, in turn, will cause viewers to question their own concept of justice.

And with so many gifts and so many challenges, Movistar Plus is, as of today, yet another challenge. They’ve gotten us used to great series, and of course, we’ll have to rise to the occasion.”

In the words of Carlos Marques-Marcet: “I’m fascinated by legal proceedings in many ways, but above all by the intersection between justice and ethics, between the public and the private, between the staging of events and the search for something we can all agree is the truth. ‘Veredicto’ is a distillation of all these dilemmas, but thrown into the pressure cooker that is a jury’s deliberation. Explaining so much

Synopsis

Nine strangers are randomly selected from the general public to serve on a jury in a case that has shocked an entire town: a teacher convicted years ago of possessing child pornography has killed the father of one of his former students. The defendant admits to the murder but claims it was in self-defense. The jury is no stranger to social pressure, and the media is watching closely…
